Therapies Early Intervention!
What is early intervention?
Early intervention is a system of services that helps babies and toddlers with developmental delays or disabilities. Early intervention focuses on helping eligible babies and toddlers learn the basic and brand-new skills that typically develop during the first three years of life, such as:
Physical (reaching, rolling, crawling, and walking)
Cognitive (thinking, learning, solving problems)
Communication (talking, listening, understanding)
Social/Emotional (playing, feeling secure and happy)
Self-help (eating, dressing)
Examples of early intervention services:
If an infant or toddler has a disability or a developmental delay in one or more of these developmental areas, that child will likely be eligible for early intervention services. Those services will be tailored to meet the child’s individual needs.
Services may also be provided to address the needs and priorities of the child’s family. Family-directed services are meant to help family members understand the special needs of their child and how to enhance his or her development.

Larry is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), with over 17 years of experience in working with individuals with Autism/Special Needs and their families. He founded Behavioral Autism Therapies (B.A.T.) with the desire to enhance the quality of life of individuals with Autism/Special needs and their families. His ultimate goal is to make a difference in these individuals’ lives by providing high quality behavioral intervention services and implementing effective Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies.
Prior to starting his own agency, Larry started his career as a co-teacher for Julie Ann Singer in West Los Angeles. He then worked for other agencies as a behavioral therapist and clinical supervisor. He was responsible for developing the behavioral program for the special education department at the Burbank Unified School District. As a behavior analyst, he was also part of the team that developed the original behavioral program for the dual diagnosed/mentally ill unit of College Hospital in Cerritos, CA. He is currently an adjunct professor for the Applied Behavior Analysis Certification Program at National University in Ontario, CA
Larry received his Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University and his Certification in Applied Behavior Analysis from National University.

Mia is responsible for overseeing the administrative and business operations of B.A.T. Mia has over 22 years of experience in the financial services industry, as a retiree for the largest bank and trust company in the country. Through her various positions with this bank, her primary focus was providing the highest level of service to her clients and helping them achieve their financial goals. She has worked with mass affluent and high net worth individuals in various professions, including real estate investors, doctors, attorneys, CPAs, corporate executives, entrepreneurs, entertainers, etc. Through her years of experience in the corporate world, she developed strong interpersonal skills, learned the business/financial operations of a large financial institution, and gained knowledge in organizational behavior.
She received her Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Economics (with minor studies in Music) from California State University, Fullerton and Master’s of Arts Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Pepperdine University.

Dr. Loc Le is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst-Doctoral with over 20 years of experience working with individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities. His training and expertise in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) include Discrete Trial Training, Pivotal Response Training, Picture Exchange Communication, Positive Behavior Support Strategies, Video Modeling, and other naturalistic teaching strategies. He has worked in the home, school, and community environments conducting functional behavioral assessments and developing and implementing behavior intervention plans. He has also been involved in developing extensive parent education and staff training programs. Dr. Le has published research in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis and the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, has co-authored a book chapter in Advanced Abnormal Child Psychology, and has presented findings at numerous conferences.
Dr. Le received his Bachelor’s Degree in psychology from UCLA and his Master’s Degree and Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate University in the area of Applied Developmental Psychology.

Dr. Marcel Soriano is Professor Emeritus in the Division of Special Education and Counseling at California State University, Los Angeles. He has over 30 years experience teaching, conducting research and publishing in the areas of child and family development, special needs children and their families and on school reform. His most recent publication is School-Based Family Counseling: Transforming Family-School Relationships (2013) available in Amazon Books.
Dr. Soriano has extensive experience in Public Education. He holds several licenses and has been a practicing School Counselor, School Principal, Assistant Superintendent and is now an active Licensed Psychologist in private practice. He has specialized in serving children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Dr. Soriano is a certified bilingual Spanish, bicultural educator (BCLAD).
Dr. Soriano received his Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Educational Psychology from the University of California, Riverside and a Ph.D. Doctorate in Clinical Family Psychology from United States International University. Dr. Soriano is an active member and has received awards from the American Psychological Association and the American Counseling Association.

Sarah Adams, PSY. D. (Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist)

Dr. Sarah Adams is in charge of assessments and diagnosis for B.A.T.’s insurance clients. She is trained in conducting the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS). Dr. Adams is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist since 1985. She completed her clinical psychologist program at Fuller Seminary. Dr. Adams has been trained in the Mitchell Model for critical incident stress debriefing and has been called to respond to a crisis within 24 to 48 hours of the incident. Dr. Adams also received training in EMDR as an avenue to reducing strong feelings associated with experiencing a trauma.
Dr. Adams also implements treatment for substance abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder, employee assistance programs, couples counseling, children and adolescent counseling, group counseling, and domestic violence treatment for men and women. Dr. Adams is a court approved group facilitator for San Bernardino Probation Department running groups for male offenders of domestic violence in a 52-week court mandated psycho-educational program format.
Dr. Adams sees clients ranging from age eight to the geriatric population. Typical treatment issues focus on reducing problematic symptoms associated with mood disorders, depression, anxiety, panic disorder, bipolar disorder, parenting issues, divorce and separation counseling, grief issues, sexual and physical abuse victims, and behavioral problems for children and teens. Dr. Adams also specializes in Christian counseling. Dr. Adams is fluent in Spanish and English.

Dr. Natalie Garcia is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), with several years of experience working with children and families. Her training and expertise is in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) include Discrete Trial Training, Pivotal Response Training, and Positive Behavior Support Strategies. She has provided services in the home, school, and community settings, conducting functional behavioral assessments as well as developing and implementing behavior intervention plans. She has also been involved in developing a parent support group. Dr. Garcia also administers diagnostic assessments for a variety of disorders, in Spanish and English.
Dr. Garcia earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of California, Riverside and her Master’s Degree and Psy.D in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Family Psychology from Azusa Pacific University. She is also a member of the American Psychological Association.

Patricia Rubalcava is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) with several years of experience working with individuals with special needs.
She has worked in the home and school settings providing behavioral therapy to individuals with Autism and special needs utilizing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), including Pivotal Response Training, Discrete Trial Training, and alternative communication methods. Patricia’s experience also includes providing parent training in ABA to parents and family members in both English and Spanish. Prior to joining B.A.T., Patricia served for two years as a US Peace Corps Volunteer in Mozambique, Africa. As an Education Volunteer, she taught science classes to Secondary and University students in the Portuguese language and created a young women’s advocacy group for proactive health awareness.
Patricia received her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from the UC San Diego and her Master’s Degree in Special Education from California State University, San Bernardino.

Cherissa is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst who has been providing ABA services to children with autism and special needs since 2006, earning her certification in 2015. She has broad experience in implementing ABA methodologies such as Discrete Trial Training (DTT) and Pivotal Response Training (PRT), and has provided in-home and school-based services. Cherissa specializes in conducting functional behavior assessments, developing and implementing intensive behavior intervention plans, designing individualized programs that focus on improving communication, social, adaptive and self-help skills, and conducting parent and staff training.
She has been with B.A.T since 2011, starting out as a behavior therapist and moving her way up to an Assistant Clinical Director. She earned her B.S. in Psychology in the Philippines and has completed her M.A. in Special Education with an Emphasis in Applied Behavior Analysis from Azusa Pacific University in 2012. She is very passionate and enjoys collaborating as a team to help each individual reach their goals and maximize their potential.

Chris is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst who has been practicing ABA therapy with individuals with special needs since 2009, earning his certification in 2017. He has vast experience in providing different ABA methods such as Discrete Trial Training, Pivotal Response Training, and Verbal Behavior. He has worked in-home and has also provided school-based ABA therapy. Chris specializes in training new therapists, conducting functional behavior assessments, developing and implementing intensive behavior intervention plans, designing individualized programs that focus on improving communication, social, adaptive and self-help skills. He has been at B.A.T since 2012, starting out as a behavior therapist and moving up to an assistant clinical director. He earned his B.A. in Psychology from CalPoly Pomona and his M.A. from National University in education with an emphasis in Applied Behavioral Analysis. Chris enjoys working with therapists and shaping to maximize their clinical skills.

Robert received his Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of California Santa Barbara. Soon after Robert began working in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis and was motivated by the challenges and progress he encountered in the field. He received his Masters degree and coursework from National University. Robert recently became a Board Certified Behavior Analyst in March 2017. When not working he enjoys live music and traveling to National Parks.
